THE
PROGRAM
The well-balanced program at
this learning center is designed to meet the social, physical, emotional,
intellectual, and creative needs of each child and to promote a life-long
love of learning.
Sensory experiences are extremely
important to the young child. Therefore, the more he/she is able to touch,
see, hear, smell, and taste, the more meaningful the experience will be
and the more he/she will remember it.
BOOKS will be a VERY IMPORTANT
part of our everyday curriculum. The children will hear one story every
day and very often another book will be used to introduce a math, science,
social studies, art, music, or language activity. In addition to hundreds
of books already in the classroom library, we use books from the local
library as well. Each day the children take home a book of their choice
to have their parents read to them. Reading to children is strongly emphasized
throughout the year.
There will be a great emphasis on the importance of being kind to one
another, being helpful, cooperative, and respecting one another. Children
will be taught patience, consideration for others, good manners, kindness
toward animals, as well as the importance of taking good care of their
learning center and the many materials available for them to use.
I will be using a wonderful
reading readiness program that introduces a different letter of the alphabet
at the beginning of each week. Throughout that week, our group activities
will revolve around that letter and its sound. For example, the week we
learn about the letter “P”, we might paint with pink and purple
paint for art. We’ll count pennies for math and sing “The
Pizza” song. We’ll tell about our pets for language, learn
about penguins for science, and read the story the “Pig’s
Wedding.” We might also try to toss Ping-Pong balls in a pail, play
with puppets, put together puzzles, make potato prints, and look at postcards
from may different places. The possibilities are nearly endless and so
much fun!!
